DiBella doesn't Deserve Malignaggi's Ire -Reported by Dan Rafael ESPN

The news this week that former junior welterweight titlist Paulie Malignaggi signed with Golden Boy did not come as a surprise to me. After all, I had written of its likelihood two weeks ago, and a couple of days later spoke to Malignaggi about it when we were in Los Angeles -- where he was meeting with company officials -- for the Shane Mosley-Sergio Mora fight.

What did surprise me was Malignaggi's uncalled for attack on his…

By Ryan Burton

BoxingScene.com recently spoke with promoter Gary Shaw about a variety of topics.

The focus of our conversation wound up on his junior middleweight Alfredo Angulo's immigration issues. BoxingScene recently reported that HBO would not air or finance any more of his fights until he could prove his right to work in the country.

Can Mayweather vs Khan be a Reality in 2011?

Amir Khan is being lined up for a possible clash with Floyd Mayweather this time next year.

Golden Boy Promotions are hoping Khan will successfully defend his WBA light-welterweight title against Marcos Maidana in December before unifying the division by taking on the winner of Timothy Bradley v Devon Alexander.

That would boost Khan's pay-par-view profile in America to make a fight with Mayweather viable, in the event…

Could Glen Johnson Upset the Elite at 168lb SuperSix?

As soon as Showtime announced on Friday that it would replace injured Mikkel Kessler in the Super Six World Boxing Classic by finding a new opponent to face Allan Green in Group Stage 3, the speculation began: Who would get the spot?

Names such as Sakio Bika and Brian Magee were mentioned, but neither went very far and neither will be the replacement. Bika, for example, declined the fight, according to Green promoter Lou DiBella, because he was not prepared to go into a… Continue

Shaw: I've Warned HBO about GoldenBoy's Motives

By Michael Marley

It came as news, unwelcome news, to Big Gary Shaw that he and any other boxing promoter not named Golden Boy is obsolete in the current market.

Like Top Rank's Bob Arum, the New jersey based "Shawtime" was quick to deliver his own body shots in retaliation to Oscar de la Hoya's war declaration in an interview in TV trade pub, Broadcasting & Cable.

Oscar's basic theme is that boxing needs to be monolithic like the UFC is to mixed martial… Continue

Blame Pacquiao for Goldenboy vs TopRank Fued

By Dan Rafael of ESPN

I didn't have a lot of fun the other day writing about Golden Boy's federal lawsuit against Top Rank, which alleges racketeering and fraud related to millions of dollars Golden Boy contends that Top Rank owes it from three Manny Pacquiao fights.

Stories like that are a real downer, not to mention it takes time and concentration to slog through a 23-page lawsuit, much of it written in legalese, and to listen to the spin from the lawyers on… Continue
