Today marks the 72nd birthday of one of the greatest boxers of our lifetime, and has the be one of the most iconic. Muhammed Ali always a man of great stories, could talk to anyone in the world and just light up their eyes, with excitement. My uncle who was a heavyweight boxer himself, and a truck driver, told me a story of him meeting Ali after his loss to Leon Spinks in 1978.
My uncle was at the Pavillion and saw the fight and asked him how he feel, "Ali said, I feel with my hands, Red." (They called my uncle Cincinnati Red) He asked him what happened to Ali, that he looked so flat in the ring. "Aww I just ate too much birthday cake before I started my training camp, you know in the rematch what Ima do to him, Ima make him look even uglier, we might do the fight on Oct..31, so the people won't think his face is abnormal, that night he can walk around without a bag over his head." Ali could always take a bad night of boxing and turn it into a show. Even when they are n cameras around to record his greatness. Happy birthday champ.
