I know alot of people are writing off Adrien Broner after his loss to Marcos Maidana on Dec 14th at the Alamodome. He was in a tough fight against a guy who is one of the strongest punchers at 147lbs. AB was able to look good against Paulie Malignaggi because of his lack of power. You can take punches for 12 rounds when a person lacks power. When your fighting a strong puncher, that can wear you down for 12 rounds. AB has to stop competing against his "big brother" Floyd Mayweather at that particular weight class.
If Adrien Broner wants to compete with Floyd, let it be at 140lbs. We know AB is not in the same class as Floyd, but he has characteristics that are similar and if he can keep honing in on it, he can be there one day. Not right now though. I understand he was trying to mimic his big brother at 147lbs, but Floyd has been there for awhile. Floyd's body has adjusted and also Floyd's defense is his key to longevity at that weight class.
In Order for AB to efficiently compete against Floyd on that level, he needs to go to 140lbs. Floyd can rule the 147lb division and AB can rule the 140lb division. Floyd has already warned you to move down to 140lbs. Hopefully Mike Stafford can talk his star pupil in taking that advice. When the time is right and you can fully grow in the 147lb weight class and rematch Marcos Maidana.
