Are they really just too many championship belts in boxing today, many believe so but it's not just new sanctioning bodies coming into play, it's also the major bodies creating mutible belts at the same weight classes. Pacquiao and Marquez fought for a world title even thought Timothy Bradley is the champion. It makes it more harder on the fans who already are clueless to the sport they watch. Now fans can't truly tell who is world champion anymore. Mayweather and Austin Trout both were the WBA super welterweight champions, at the same time, how ridiculous is that. Now Mayweather and Canelo will fight for about 15 world titles in one fight. Sounds funny but you would be shocked at how close to truth that is,
Floyd Mayweather is taking a stand again in his mission to clean up the sport, after he has the boxing world fighting and arguing over random blood and urine tests, to now fighters are demanding double tests, and now Mayweather shifts his attention to this belt crisis. "First off I have no issue with any sanctioning body, but we have to clean this sport up there are just too many belts in the sport of boxing, If I beat Cotto for the WBA championship, how can Trout beat him for the same championship, these are the things I don't understand in the sport." Mayweather told AP
"This is a professional business and we need to handle it in a professional manner, they are too many belts, I'm paying a sanctioning fee, the same time Trout is paying a sanctioning fee, now you got Canelo he paying the sanctioning fee. If I can help, Richard can help, and Leonard can help, we know they are busy trying to clean up the sport but if they can help, but we really need to get this thing under control." When ask how would he get rid of all these belts, Mayweather replied 'I really don't know"
