A sad day for the sport of boxing as we lost another great champion Andy 'The Hawaiian Punch' Ganigan. Andy was a hard hitting southpaw from Waipahu, HI. Known for his outstanding knockouts in the seventies and eighties. He finished his career with 35 victories with 30 coming by way of knockout. His biggest victory was a shocking round 2 knockout over Sean O'Grady. He even dropped Alexis Arguello in their first round only to lose the fight later on.
He passed away in Las Vegas around his family. two years ago a drunken man twice his size got into a fist fight with Ganigan and the attack left him in a disabling state. After two years of fighting, his body just gave in. 3-times world champion Brian Viloria of Waipahu himself, who also go by the name 'The Hawaiian Punch' was close friends with Ganigan and shared on his Twitter account his feelings.
"RIP to my friend and mentor, the original Hawaiian Punch, Andy Ganigan. My condolences to his family and friends. He is in my prayers." Said Viloria who has a fight coming up in a few days will dedicate his fight in Ganigan honor.
