One thing Miguel Cotto may be is headstrong, but not a dummy. He knows his limitations and how to maximize his earnings per fight. A super fight against the harder than life puncher Gennady Golovkin is what fans want to see the most but the money fight is a match between himself and the young Mexican star Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez. Cotto may have two fights left in his Hall of Fame career, and he doesn't want to risk taken one he never needed to, in facing Golovkin.
If Cotto career never has a fight with Golovkin on it, would you tarnish his championship status or his Hall of Fame status. There have been many fights that has never materialized, due to negotiations, and foolish pride. We never saw Evander holyfield vs Roy Jones, or Bernard Hopkins vs James Toney, what about Riddick Bowe vs Lennox Lewis, but we but Lennox in the hall, without the mega fight and why is that because boxing will create another challenge, it just takes time.
