The latest buzz in the boxing world is Cotto's win over the weekend. It was a good win for him and his new trainer Roach but what did beating up a D level fighter with 6 losses and 3 draws really prove? Miguel is a top level fighter. And he's only 32. Why is he fighting a tune up? I know he had a new trainer and he's coming off back to back losses. But neither one of them was a devastating loss. Manny Pac is coming off two losses as well. One a devastating KO to Marquez. But is he fighting a tune up? No! He's jumping right back in there with Brandon Rios. And you gotta respect that. That's what top level fighters do. So as far as Cotto's win, I'm not impressed! He did what he was supposed to do!
I've been hearing so much hype after the fight, but I'm not buying into it. Some say that if he would've fought Floyd like that he would've won. NO WAY! You can't use his win against Delvin to measure his chances against Money May. CompuBox had Cotto winning only round 8 against Floyd. I gave him 2 or 3 rounds at best. Don't let a nose bleed fool you. That takes one punch. Cotto couldn't beat Floyd in a dream! Even with Roach and a 4 year age advantage.
The point I'm making is this. I can't give Miguel too much credit for his win. And I'm a fan. But in my opinion he's a top level guy and should not be fighting a ESPN fighter. He's only 32 and he didn't suffer a devastating loss in his last two fights. This fight was nothing but a easy payday. His fans deserve better!
