Daniel Ponce de Leon retires after KO loss

Veteran super featherweight Miguel “Micky” Román (46-11, 35 KOs) scored a tenth round TKO over former two-division world champion Daniel Ponce de Leon (45-7, 35 KOs) on Saturday night in front of 7,000+ at the Monumental Estadio de Beisbol in Cuauhtémoc, Chihuahua, Mexico. Román dropped Ponce de Leon in round six and got a referee’s stoppage with a barrage of unanswered punches in the tenth. The 34-year-old Ponce de Leon, who has now been stopped in three of his last four outings, announced his retirement from boxing in an interview after the fight.
