"Gladiators in the Ring"
By Val Soliman
Boxing is a brutal sport, but for a fight fan... it is a form of entertainment. Legendary fights like Ali-Frazier, Castillo-Corrales, Gatti-Ward, Hagler-Hearns - are the kind of fights where the spectators get what they want - a battle between two warriors, a fight that will live up to the hype, the kind of fights that are made to last in our memories. It's like going back to the Ancient Rome's Arena where both combatants enter the ring as a gladiator, no retreat, and no surrender.
Are we running out of fighter that brings excitement to the ring? Not Really. Warriors are born, they're not made. They come and go. There are many fighters who are willing to risk their lives for the sake of the sport and the fans. Win or lose, they always bring excitement in the ring. They come to fight and they don't like the crowd booing or falling asleep while in their seats.
These are the fan friendly fighters of our generation: Gennady Golovkin, Marcos Maidana, Mikey Garcia, Deontay Wilder, Ruslan Provodnikov, Alfredo Angulo, Brandon Rios, Nonito Donaire, Jesus Soto Karass, Lucas Matthysse, Carl Froch, Keith Thurman, Manny Pacquiao, Danny Garcia, Yuriorkis Gamboa, Orlando Salido, Victor Ortiz, Mike Alvarado, Adonis Stevenson, Andre Berto, Miguel Cotto, Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. and more. Surely, there are some names that we might have missed. Hardcore fans know who they are.
