
MANILA, Philippines - Undefeated boxer Floyd Mayweather Jr. says he will be an even bigger challenge for Filipino boxing icon Manny Pacquiao, especially after Pacquiao struggled against Juan Manuel Marquez last Saturday in Las Vegas.
Pacquiao was frustrated by Marquez's pinpoint counterpunching through 12 rounds, and Marquez was constantly able to tag Pacquiao with right straights.
But Pacquiao escaped with a majority decision victory and retained his World Boxing Organization welterweight title.
"I'm just saying that, you know, if [Pacquiao's] having a problem with Marquez, I mean, Marquez is a good counterpuncher, but I'm the best to ever do it," Mayweather said in an interview with Fight Hype.
Mayweather is considered to be the finest defensive fighter of his generation, and his excellent defensive instincts has led to an undefeated record through 42 fights.
In another Fight Hype interview, Mayweather admitted that he did not watch the fight, but received messages that Marquez had been cheated out of a victory.
