Lamar Russ was a fill in for Willie Nelson when he fought Matthew Macklin on Dec 7th in Atlantic City, New Jersey. Lamar who is now 14-1 put his undefeated record on the line to face battle tested Matthew Macklin 30-5 who fought the likes of Sergio Martinez, Joachim Alcine, Gennady Golovkin, Felix Sturm. Lamar come out on the short end of the stick with the scores of 96-94, 97-93, and 98-92. Lamar is hoping to bounce back and he is eager to get back in the ring for 2014. Lamar reached out to Boxingsocialist.com to let us know what he has planned for next year.
"Despite that I suffered my first loss to Matthew Macklin, I wanna say thank you to Lou DiBella promotions and HBO for the opportunity, Everlast boxing equipment for the uniform/boxing shoes and to all my fans, family and Omega Psi Phi brothers for the support. Also I wanted to say that experience played a big factor in the fight but I promise if granted a rematch the outcome will be totally different with me raising my hand at the end of the fight. Macklins a good fighter and I take nothing away from him but I thought he would hit harder and display better skills. He was the better fighter that night and I guess that's all that matters now."
