January 28, 2013 by Chris DeGuia
According to Golden Boy Promotions, they have signed Lamont Peterson to there promotion. Lamont according to Golden Boy had a few words to say on the signing.
"I am excited about signing with Golden Boy Promotions and the opportunity to work with them again," said Peterson. "Being with Golden Boy really gives me the chance to make the best fights available in my weight class. I want to fight the best in the world at 140 [pounds] and I know it can happen as a member of the Golden Boy team. I am optimistic that this is a decision that will help further my career." (Quotes according to Golden Boy Promotions)
Oscar De La Hoya had words to say about Peterson signing and they are "We are thrilled that Lamont Peterson will be joining Golden Boy Promotions' team," said President of Golden Boy Promotions Oscar De La Hoya. "We know firsthand what Lamont Peterson can do, as he's been in the ring with our fighters Amir Khan and Victor Ortiz. We know that he is the kind of individual that will be an asset to our team and great competitor in the 140-pound weight class."(Quotes according to Golden Boy Promotions)
To me this signing means a lot to Lamont because he has been a free agent for almost a few years. He was exploring options. The last time Lamont was signed with a promotional brand, that was with Top Rank, Inc. The last time Lamont Peterson fought that was when he won a Split decision from Amir "King" Khan winning the WBA and IBF titles. A rematch with Amir khan was set to take place on May 19 ,2012, but unfortunately Peterson failed a pre fight drug test. Peterson was taking a sythetic testoterone. He took the sythetic testoterone as a valid treatment but did not inform NSAC (Nevada State Athletic Commission). So for failing the pre fight drug screen test, the rematch was canceled, and he was sripped of his WBA title. But he kept his IBF title. The WBA title was brought back to Amir Khan which Khan lost to by Danny Garcia in a 4th round knockout. So on February 22, 2013 he will be back in the ring on his Golden Boy Promotions debut defending his IBF title against Kendall Holt.
Lastly the signing to me is a second chance for Peterson ever since he failed a pre fight drug test. He has a lot to prove to himself that he is a clean fighter and that he is not taking anything HGH, testoterone, and etc. Also Peterson has to prove to Golden Boy Promotions that they signed one of the best fighters in the fight game today.
