Vasyl Lomachenko wins a majority decision against Gary Russell Jr. In rounds one and two Vasyl outworked Gary Russell. While in rounds three and four Russell had a busy rounds three and four. In round 5, Lomachenko landed body shots, hooks, 1-2 combinations and straight hands. After that round 5 and through out the fight Russell kept Vasyl at bay with non-stopping punching but Vasyl came strong down the stretch. After the fight was over three judges had to score the fight. Lisa Giampa scored the bout 114-114 even, while judges Pat Russell and Max DeLuca scored it 116-112 even. Your winner and now the vacant WBO featherweight champion, your two time Olympic Gold medalist Vasyl Lomachenko!
In my opinion about the fight, it was a good fight, I enjoyed every round and the right person won. The lost that Lomachenko had with Orlando Salido woke him up a lot because he knew that he (Vasyl) had to put constant pressure and walk down his opponent. On the Salido fight, Lomachenko did not do that but when Vasyl fought Russell, he did those things. The thing that pissed me off in the fight was judge Lisa Giampa score of 114-114 draw. To me that score (114-114) was baloney. I scored the fight 116-112 for Lomachenko. But anyway, the right person won. As for Gary Russell, he will have to watch the fight, learn from it, and grow from it. As well as get busy in the early rounds. Russell threw a lot of combinations, focused on speed and combinations flurries. Also, Gary has to now fight tough opposition opponents. Russell has not fought tough opponents until he fought Lomachenko. Russell Jr. has been matched softly with fighting opponents with 7, 11 loses. Lomachenko is not a walk in the park. My hats off to Vasyl Lomachenko.
