"Fans Are Real Winner"
by Val Soliman
"When the challenger beats the champion(who was regarded as one of the best in the sport) in a fair and square fight, it could mean couple of good things."
"A better fighter won the fight". Both are champions and future hall of famers, Manny Pacquiao and Juan Manuel Marquez prepared a lot more than how they prepared against their other opponents. This is why many people believed they are each other's "Nemesis". They are made for each other. When people say "they don't like each other"... it is not that they hate each other personally. They are friends outside the ring but mortal enemies inside the ring. I don't buy the lucky punch, foot stomping, PED's, religion change or politics thing. In the sport of boxing, whoever prepares and executes the plan gets the victory. Whoever makes the mistake will pay the price(and that is Pacquiao). Marquez won the fight, Pacquiao congratulated and gave him the credit he deserved. We got a clear winner.
"When competition get's tougher, it get's better". Why not have an easy fight then wait for the payday fight? At this point of his career, Manny Pacquiao is fighting the best opponents he can have regardless of the risk level. Juan Manuel Marquez fought Likar Ramos and Serhiy Fedchencko before heading to the Pacquiao fight(third and fourth). If Manny didn't fight Marquez, Bradley and Marquez again, can you imagine what boxing fans could have missed? The last three fights of Manny brought best out of him and the sport. He could have fought easier fights, made a temporary retirement and wait for a Mayweather fight for the biggest payday of his career... but that didn't happen. It is good to see a champion on the top of the game because he beats the toughest rather than staying top of the sport because no tougher opponent can challenge him.
"The fighter with more focus in the sport gets the advantage". No disrespect to Manny Pacquiao, he should be admired by millions of his countrymen and boxing fans around the world because of his accomplishments as a boxer, a father and as a congressman. No one did it like the way he does until now. He decided to continue boxing to provide entertainment and high level of competition for the sport while still helping less fortunate people as a congressman. But Marquez is more focused, hungry and dedicated to the sport of boxing. His physique is a proof that he took his preparation to a higher level he possibly could. At the age of 39, who will say Marquez is nearing the tail of his career after he fought Pacquiao last December 8. And when he turns 40, would you easily predict that he will lose to Manny if they will fight this coming September?
When two of the best pound for pound fighters face each other in the ring, you see the highest level of competition, you get the fight you want to see - two fighters not afraid to take the risk, fight for the honor, for the country and for the fans. Can't wait for their next fight...
