Mayweather will fight Guerrero in May, and Alvarez's defeat will come in September

If Mayweather Jr. waits until September 21st (during Mexican Independence Day) to fight Canelo Alvarez, and rather fights Guerrero in May(Cinco de Mayo Weekend), he will make a possible $60-80 Million Dollars in 2013, just on those two fights alone.

Why is this important to know? Well, if Mayweather Jr. fights Canelo in May, he is taking the biggest risk of the two, jeopardizing a GIANT pay day in September which he has had for the last couple of years. We already know he has said that he plans to fight twice next year and in these particular months. If he looses against Canelo, he can kiss a September payday good bye. So, if we know how Mayweather Jr. and Al Haymon work, they will make the choice that ensures them the most money.

Mayweather Jr. will fight Guerrero in May.

On the flipside, It has been said by De La Hoya, that he thinks Canelo should wait another year or two to fight Mayweather Jr. If you read between the lines, he is saying this because:

  • Mayweather Jr. posses the biggest threat to his money maker, Canelo
  • He thinks Canelo may not be ready to fight and even defeat Mayweather Jr.
  • He wants Mayweather to slow down a bit

And he is RIGHT to think that. So, maybe the Canelo fight with Mayweather Jr. may not even happen next year because of those very reasons. Golden Boy will make more money in the long run putting together Co-Main Event Shows with Mayweather Jr. and Canelo rather than Mayweather Jr. vs. Canelo; at least for now.

A Mayweather vs. Canelo fight would be awesome to watch! Whether it be in 2013 or 2014.

Canelo would have to improve his power punches and his defense in order to have any chance to win.  As of now, he still leaves his chin exposed too often and his chin is not that strong to begin with, so he can't afford to take chin shots like say Chavez Jr.  Actually, Canelito has even been stunned by the mediocre boxers that he's faced thus far.

Chavez Jr. got his first loss when he faced Martinez.  Without a doubt, Alvarez will get his first loss when he meets Mayweather.

Floyd is an expert at getting through anyone's defense so he'll easily be able to find Canelo's chin, even if Canelo picks up his defense.  The fact that Canelo has poor defense just makes a K.O. more probable.  I can see Floyd knocking Canelo out, not necessarily because of the power behind his punch but because he will most likely surprise Alvarez with a punch he's not expecting.  As we saw with Marquez vs Pacquiao 4, the punch that a fighter doesn't see is the one that knock him out.

There were a lot of good boxing matches this year.  Hopefully, we'll get to see better ones in 2013!

Its called the business of boxing, Arum does it all the time, just like all other promoters. Arum got Pacquiao knocked the f*** out by choosing to keep trying to set up easy in house fights for him, this is done in the language of all in the business of promoting the fights thats going to make him the most money.
