Rios Out Guns Alvarado in a Instant Classic

By Kevin Davis

It's not everyday you get a boxing match that lives up to the hype. When this match was announced, boxing fans across the world eyes lit up like Christmas lights. We knew Mike Alvarado the 140lbs, bad boy hard come forward fighter was the bigger man, and was thought to be the stronger man, but once the bell rung, Brandon Rios owned the ring.

Alvarado had his moments in the fight, he had a good plan of starting from the outside and keeping Rios on the end of his punches, but Rios would not back up and kept the fight in close quarters. Alvarado had no choice but to trade punch for punch but he could never back up Rios. In round 5, Rios seemed to fatigue and Alvarado landed some great right hand power shots. In round 6, Rios landed a powerful left hook to the body then landed a tremendous right hand up stairs, backing up Alvarado.

In round 7, Rios was boxing and getting in close with little resistance from Alvarado, when Rios caught him with a great right hand that led him to retreat and another one on the ropes that left him sleepwalking. Ref had no choice but to stop the contest. Rios made a statement that he moved up in weight and took him power with him. The winner of the Pacquiao and Marquez fight is on the table, if Mayweather isn't interested. .
