TMT Trainer Nate Jones: 'These trainers nowadays are poets!'

By Kevin Davis

Floyd Mayweather's assistant trainer Nate Jones, who has worked with Mayweather and countless other fighters, has been in the background for years, and you would have to travel far to find another trainer or fighter, that would say Nate isn't a great trainer. After watching fights over the years and speaking with Jones I asked him, what was his take on boxing trainers today. "Man these trainers don't know s*** about training, these fighters feet are all crazy and they can't jab, and you see them in the corner and the trainer is over there rhyming, like he was practicing poems in the mirror just to say on TV."

I have known Jones for many years and he has always trained fighters even when he was fighting he always was able to teach the game. For the fans, here is what a trainer should bring to you, education, motivation and conditioning. You use to get that from one trainer, now it takes three trainer to capture these keys, Jones blame politics in the sport from the amateurs til pro's too many non boxing corporate pin pushers are making decision. "they are too many of the people in here making decisions in boxing, and they pushing the wrong fighters, putting them with these so called trainers, who ain't nothing but poets, they fighter is getting killed and they over there telling the poems, why don't you tell him how to deal with what's happening. They can't."

I agree that Nate is extremely underrated trainer, but sooner or later that he will receive his just due.
