Javier “La Bestia” Maciel (29-3, 20 KOs), who took the fight on 3 weeks notice due to Yuri Foreman retiring, won a ten round majority decision over Jorge “The Destroyer” Melendez (28-4-1, 26 KOs). Maciel was loading up on his punches although Melendez was the busier fighter. Melendez was knocked down and also had a point taken away but he showed a great chin. The official scores were 96-92 and 97-91 for Maciel while one judge had it a draw.
Andy Lee (33-2, 23KOs) scored a come from behind fifth round KO over John Jackson (18-2, 15KOs). All 3 judges had it scored the same, 39-36 for Johnson at the end of round four. Jackson dropped Lee in round one with a right hook. Lee got rocked again in the fifth and then he landed with a counter right knock out punch to end the fight. Official time was 1:07.
Felix Verdejo (13-0, 10 KOs) made easy work of Engelberto Valenzuela (9-2, 3KOs) by scoring a TKO in round one. The official time was 1:17. A knockdown was scored earlier in the round by Verdejo and the referee waved it off after Valenzuela continued to take punishment.
