Zou shines in China, scores big knockout and the rest of the results here

IBF lightweight world champion Miguel “Titere” Vazquez (34-3, 13 KOs) of Mexico retained his title with a twelve round unanimous decision over previously unbeaten Russian Denis Shafikov (33-1-1, 17 KOs) on Saturday night in the Cotai Arena at The Venetian Macau, China. It was a typical tactical Vazquez fight as he used his height and ring movement to outbox the aggressive Shafikov when he wasn’t holding him. The challenger never got much going. Vazquez was cut over the left eye in round four. Shafikov was cut over the right eye in round seven. Scores were 115-113, 116-112, 119-109.

2008/2012 Olympic gold medalist Zou Shiming (4-0, 1 KO) of China scored a seventh round KO over Thailand’s Yokthong Kokietgym (15-4, 11 KOs) in a flyweight bout. Shiming dropped Kokietgym three times in round seven. Time was 2:09.

In a crossroads fight between former world champions, Filipino Marvin Sonsona (18-1-1, 15 KOs) scored a crushing third round KO over Japan’s Akifumi Shimoda (28-4-2, 12 KOs) in a bout fought in the featherweight division. Shimoda got off to a good start, but a left uppercut from Sonsona put Shimoda out cold. Time was 1:17. Sonsona is now the WBO International beltholder.

2012 Olympic light heavyweight gold medalist Egor Mekhontsev (2-0, 2 KOs) of Russia impressively scored a second round stoppage of Thailand’s Atthaporn Jaritram (3-1, 1 KO). Mekhontsev dropped Jaritram in round two and the bout was waved off soon after. Time was 2:19.

Unbeaten Chinese super flyweight Rex Tso (9-0, 6 KOs) an all-action eighth round TKO over super game Mako Matsuyama (7-8-1, 3 KOs) of Japan. Tso dropped Matsuyama in round two, but Matsuyama should great heart and fought hard until his corner finally threw in the towel. Time was 1:27. Tso defended his WBC Asia Continental jr. bantamweight title and added the vac ant WBO Asia Pacific super flyweight title.

2012 Japanese Olympic middleweight gold medalist Ryota Murata (3-0, 3 KOs) of Japan scored an impressive fourth round TKO over Brazilian former world title challenger Carlos Nascimento (28-4, 22 KOs). Murata dominated the first two rounds, then floored Nascimento with a barrage of punches in round three. The end came in the fourth when Murata launched a furious attack that prompted a referee’s stoppage. Time was :43.

Unbeaten local super welterweight Kuok Kun Ng (3-0, 1 KO) scored a third round KO over Indonesian Rocky Alap-Alap (2-10, 0 KOs). “The Macau Kid” floored Alap-Alap in round two and again in round three to end it. Time was 1:17.

Unbeaten Filipino super featherweight Harmonito Dela Torre (12-0, 7 KOs) laid out Indonesian Yakobus Heluka (7-6, 3 KOs) with an explosive right hand to the jaw in the first round. Time was 2:17.

Filipino super flyweight prospect Jerwin Ancajas (17-1-1, 10 KOs) impressively demolished Thailand’s Inthanon Sithchamuang (19-7, 10 KOs). Ancajas dropped Sithchamuang in round one, then floored him hard in round two. At that point, the bout was waved off by the referee. Time was 1:30.
